The video Digital_Nation elaborates on the fact that people today are constantly centered around technology. The video featured students at prominent schools talking about how they are always on their smart phones and laptops, doing multiple things at once. It made me take a look around and see how true that really is. I cannot think of an instance since I have been in college when I walked into a room and no one had some form of technology in front of them. This is just the way it is now. Many students bring their laptops to lectures and while “listening,” they also check their Facebook, email, and whatever else their lives are based around. I believe those students are hurting themselves by not giving their lectures their full attention.

People everywhere are so into digital communication that texting while driving is as normal as listening to the radio while driving. Digital_Nation showed a study being done about how those who text while driving might as well be driving blindfolded. That discovery was a disturbing one. Since that day, I have not sent or read text messages while driving.

Although this digital age is taking us to great places, it is also becoming a dangerous distraction in our lives.

  1. I totally agree with your statement about the digital age making our world a more dangerous place.

I mean, let's just take the OU campus for example. Waiting to cross Lindsey, you can see each and every driver that zooms by you. It really saddens me how many I see, on a daily basis I may add, who are driving and texting.

Seriously, it's just a matter of time until someone dies here on campus. That's what it takes these days, unfortunately, for people to realize just how distracting texting and driving can be.

  2. Funny you bring that up, because just last week as I was standing on one side of Lindsey waiting to cross, I noticed SO many students texting and driving! I counted about 5 in the mere minute that I stood there. It was rather disturbing. I really want young people to understand how not okay it is to text and drive.

  3. Very true, i see it all the time in class. Personally i take my laptop to big classes in hall classrooms because i feel its easier because the teacher goes through slides much faster. I always see students in font of me on facebook or playing games online. Technology is everywhere, and your right, it's just the way things are now. My roommate for example is always on his laptop. NO exaggeration, day and night he's on it. Even when talk to him or when he's eat, and he even sleeps with it on his belly while on the couch. Technology is everywhere, can we really stop it? Probably not.
